The new BMW 650i Coupe packs a 4.4-liter twin-turbocharged V-8 engine, making 400 hp (and a peak 450 lb-ft of torque at just 1,750 rpm), and it can sprint to 60 mph in just 4.8 seconds with either the six-speed manual transmission or the eight-speed automatic. Top speed is limited to 155 mph.

Active Roll Stabilization is optional, and it works with the standard Dynamic Damper Control system to provide flat cornering and sharpen the responses of this big coupe without cutting into ride comfort. Integral Active Steering, which has been offered in the 3-Series for several years, is now available in the 650i Coupe, actually steers the rear axle to provide quicker steering response and improved maneuverability, while the standard Driving Dynamics Control includes Comfort, Normal, Sport, and Sport+ modes, with the enthusiast-oriented Sport+ raising the threshold for the stability control system. BMW claims that the driving dynamics of the new 6-Series are even sharper than those of its predecessor.
At first glance, the production 650i Coupe actually doesnt look that much different than the Concept 6-Series Coupe BMW showed last year at the Paris show—and that, in turn, isnt far off from the rendering we showed you last summer. Body length and wheelbase have been increased by nearly three inches, and theres 1.5 inches more width, due to increased track width, which helps improve both the vehicles stance and roadholding. Also enhancing the 650i Coupes stance, are the more pronounced wheel arches and a somewhat more creased look from the side, with a character line running alongside. And BMW has managed to improve pedestrian protection while mostly keeping the hood flat. At the back, the 6-Series Coupe gets distinctive LED light strips.

That said, BMW isn’t leaving buyers looking for a large, premium coupe out in the cold. The automaker just released the first official photos of the new 2012 650i coupe, which is scheduled to reach U.S. showrooms by the fall of 2011.

Predictably, the new 650i coupe is a line-for-line clone of its convertible sibli
ng below the beltline. Previewed by the 6-series Concept shown at the 2010 Paris Motor Show, the new 6-series coupe’s exterior form is clean, sculpted, and a refreshing change from the previous model. Designers labored to lend the coupe and convertible similar rooflines, although the hardtop does receive slender C-pillars, which incorporate the brand’s distinctive Hofmeister kink.

We knew for some time that BMW was busy prepping the 2012 BMW 650i Coupe, the hard top version of its all-new 6 Series, but Munich decided the fixed-roof 6 would arrive after the convertible version. Its simply a timing thing, as the 6 drop-top is set to hit U.S. streets just in time for the summer.
Fans of the 650i coupe wont have too long to wait. BMW, which has just released the first official photos and details of the new coupe, is planning a fall release for the new 6 coupe in America.
